With the global spread of viral diseases, the use of three ply mask has been taken into account more than before in many countries. Three ply masks are respiratory masks that have been used to prevent entrain of harmful species such as bacteria, virus as well as dust to the mouth and noise. Such masks entail from two parts which are a span band and a melt blown layer as each of them has their own performance. The former one acts like a screen as it prevents entrance of dust and viruses in a mechanical mode while the later electrostatically impede external object diffusion.

Span textile are one of the most appropriate materials for fabrication of three ply respirational masks.

Iranian Nano Polymer Membrane produce three-ply masks using nanofiber coated span band. Microscopic tests performed on this product show the presence of fibers with sizes less than 100 nm. The filtration efficiency test of the mask containing nanofibers showed that the removal of 300 nm particles in the control sample was 37%, which was improved to 95% by adding nanofibers.

So, according to Iranian national standard No. 12098 and ISO-TS 27687, this product can be considered as nanotechnology.
